Course Overview: 

Depression is a leading cause of disability in the United States and worldwide. It is estimated that one in five individuals will experience depression in their lifetime, and while these symptoms are common, under-treatment is often seen in practice. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a valuable evidence-based intervention and effective approach to use in practice for individuals experiencing depressive disorders. This training will discuss depressive disorders, CBT theory and approach in practice and use of CBT to treat depressive disorders among adults.

 

Presenter:

Dr. Lindsay Bornheimer is an Associate Professor in the University of Michigan School of Social Work and Assistant Professor in the Michigan Medicine Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Bornheimer's research aims to examine suicide risk and protective factors, advance theories of suicide and develop and test cognitive-behavioral interventions along with their implementation. Dr. Bornheimer was trained during a predoctoral fellowship at the McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research at New York University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Washington University in St. Louis Brown School of Social Work.

 

Dr. Bornheimer's background in psychology and social work involves specific training and expertise in adult mental health practice. She is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with over twelve years of expertise in psychotherapy with individuals, couples, and families in both public and private settings. She completed her clinical training at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, and has extensive training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
