State-Specific CE Requirements for Social Workers

Many states mandate specific CE hours in cultural competency, implicit bias, and related topics for social work license renewal. Below are some of the current requirements for social workers across various states:

  • Connecticut – 1 hour in Cultural Competence (annually)

  • Mississippi – 2 hours in Cultural Diversity (per renewal cycle)

  • Massachusetts – 2 hours in Anti-Racism and 1 hour in Anti-Discrimination

  • Arizona – 3 hours in Cultural Competency & Diversity

  • Rhode Island – 3 hours in Cross-Cultural Practice & Oppression

  • Texas – 3 hours in Cultural Diversity/Competency

  • New Jersey – 3 hours in Social and Cultural Competence

  • Illinois – 3 hours in Cultural Competence + 1 hour in Implicit Bias

  • Michigan – 3 hours in Cultural Competency + 3 hours in Implicit Bias (over 3-year renewal cycle)

  • Maryland – 3 hours in Anti-Oppressive Social Work (Live Webinar)

  • Missouri – 3 hours in Diversity, Inclusion, and Bias Awareness

  • Minnesota – 4 hours in Cultural Responsiveness

  • New Mexico – 6 hours in Cultural Awareness

  • Oregon – 3–6 hours in Cultural Competency (based on license level)
